How Much to Run that Space Heater?

Here’s the correct formula.

First, find out how many watts the heater uses.

A kilowatt hour (kWh) equals 1,000 watt hours, and our residential energy rate is $0.07828/kWh.

• Watts X hrs used = Total watt hours

• Total watt hours divided by 1,000 = Total kWh used

• kWh used X $0.07828 = daily cost

So... If your heater uses 1500 watts and you run it 12 hours each day:

• 1500 watts X 12 hrs/day = 18,000 watt hours

• 18,000 watt hours /1,000 = 18 kWh/day

• 18 kWh X $0.07828= $1.41 each day running it 12 hours a day

• $1.41 X 30 (days in a month) = $42.30 per month
